Synopsis

[Episode file is currently unavailable -- please check back soon!]

Dave has spent his entire life being a problem solver--for his mother, his wife, and the world. This over-functioning has interfered with Dave’s ability to be knowable to others. As a result of this heroic tendency, Dave tends to view his wife as more of a problem to be solved than as an intimate friend. A dynamic that has left Carly feeling lonely, frustrated, and resentful.

Listen to Dr. Finlayson-Fife’s input on how to help this couple to see the roles they have each played in this frustrating dynamic and what they can do to create a more intimate partnership and friendship.

This episode will be valuable for those who:
  • Overfunction in their lives and relationships
  • Do not feel chosen by their spouse
  • Feel more like roommates than partners with their spouse
  • Have overreaching parents or inlaws
  • Want to create a stronger friendship and partnership in their marriage
