Feeling rejected by your spouse in any realm can be disheartening, but when the rejection is sexual, it can be exceptionally demoralizing experiencing. Sexual rejection is particularly potent because during arousal states the brain is highly plastic. So any emotion, good or bad, holds extra sway when it is experienced during an aroused state.
